Roy Williams plans to stick around UNC for a while.

The soon-to-be Hall of Fame coach agreed to a four-year contract extension Thursday -- a deal which would keep him a Tar Heel through the 2014-2015 season.

Williams, 56, has compiled a 106-30 record at UNC and has 524 career wins against 131 losses. His 2005 team brought home the NCAA championship.

"The confidence Chancellor Moeser and Dick Baddour have shown in me by offering this extension is flattering," Williams said in a press conference. "I am excited about coaching at Carolina and look forward to these next eight years."

Williams will earn an annual base salary of $325,000. He will also earn supplemenatal income ranging from $1.2 million to $1.5 million per year. Bonuses will be paid based on his teams' NCAA tournament performances as well as their graduation rates.

"Roy Williams is the most complete coach in the country," said Dick Baddour, director of athletics, in a press conference Thursday.

"I knew when we hired him he was an outstanding basketball coach, but he has also exceeded our every expectation in the manner in which he runs a basketball program. He believes in character first, he coaches for all the right reasons and he is a first-rate ambassador of our university."

So UNC got worried Roy might leave for Greener pastures. With the way colleges steal coaches I hope UNC has a buy out clause better then WV had on their coach. (Continued…)

funny, his record is worse at unc then his overall record

@ UNC ratio of wins to losses : 3.53/1
overall career ratio : 4/1

Perhaps it was easier to win in the Big 8 + 4?
